Bacula Enterprise is a highly secure and reliable backup and recovery software that supports a wider range of databases and hypervisor types than nearly any other solution currently available. For instance, it integrates effortlessly with OpenStack, providing a particularly robust backup and recovery solution, even in highly demanding environments.

The Bacula Enterprise OpenStack Plugin provides agentless backup and restore for OpenStack workloads, including Nova instances, Cinder volumes, and Glance images. The plugin supports backup and restore of both Ephemeral Disk Instances (Boot from Image) and Volume-Backed Instances (Boot from Volume). For Nova instance backups, the plugin also protects the associated Neutron network metadata and Nova flavor information required for restore.

Snapshot-based online backup of OpenStack Nova instances, Cinder volumes, and Glance images.
Full, Incremental, and Differential block-level backup of OpenStack volumes.
Consistent protection of server data and configuration metadata, including attached volumes, images, flavors, and related OpenStack resource information.
Flexible backup scope selection using explicit object names, regular expression-based include and exclude rules, Keystone project selection, and tag-based filtering.
Granular control of Nova server volume backup, including the ability to back up only bootable volumes and to exclude specific attached volumes by name pattern or UUID.
Backup of standalone Cinder volumes that are not attached to Nova instances.
Restore of complete Nova instances, individual volumes, images, and related metadata, with options to restore into the same or a different OpenStack cloud.
Automatic Object Integration support, allowing OpenStack objects to be discovered and protected through separate jobs to improve scalability, throughput, and resiliency.
Automatic snapshot cleanup after backup operations.
Compatibility with Bacula Enterprise deduplication, encryption, compression, and a wide range of storage targets, including disk, network storage, tape, and cloud storage.
Both username/password and application credential authentication methods are supported.
