The MongoDB Plugin supports Bacula LIST and QUERY operations for inventory and configuration assistance. These operations connect to MongoDB and return information about the server, databases, and collections.

Typical uses include:

  • Confirming that the File Daemon can connect to MongoDB.

  • Listing databases before creating Filesets.

  • Listing collections for selective backup planning.

  • Feeding BWeb scan-plugin/Automation workflows.

The exact command syntax depends on the Bacula interface used. In Bconsole, .query uses a parameter selector and .ls uses a path selector. The MongoDB plugin line contains the connection parameters only.

Database inventory query
*.query client=mongodb-fd plugin="mongodb: uri=mongodb://backup:secret@mongo1.example.com:27017/admin?authSource=admin" parameter=database
Collection listing
*.ls client=mongodb-fd plugin="mongodb: uri=mongodb://backup:secret@mongo1.example.com:27017/admin?authSource=admin" path=/collections/appdb

Useful selectors include all, server, database, collection, /db/<database>, /collections/<database>, and /collection/<database>/<collection>.

For large deployments, restrict inventory queries to the databases or collections that are relevant to backup configuration. This avoids unnecessary output and reduces the permissions required for discovery.
